Restaurants and Bars

Right. India. Curry… That’s what I thought.

But, it’s a big place, India, and it has quite a variety of cuisines. Not only that, but just about everywhere is going to be better than anything your used to abroad. Fresher and readily available ingredients, cooked in bulk by chefs that do it every day with a million competitors within spitting distance… An unfortunate turn of phrase, sorry.

So the curious result is that all the trendy places are striving after a Western feel and some of them achieve it to a spectacular degree. You could say that the trick is to find places that have that Indian twist that makes them interesting. Or, better still, accept it as an cosmopolitan international city and enjoy it for what it is. You’ll find that you get a lot of ‘service’ albeit pretty shoddy / inexperienced. And it’s not filthy cheap – not quite at London prices but surprising – and almost all restaurants are bars and visa versa.

You typically get billed for your booze and food separately – some legal thing – and be warned, India has dry days, where you can’t buy booze anywhere except in 5 star hotels. Most public holidays are dry days to limit pissed-up behavior.
