Hotels

Hotels are massively overpriced. It’s a contrivance of limited land space, Indian optimism and opportunism. Despite clear evidence to the contrary, Mumbia thinks it is the new Shanghai. This delusion has been sparked by a large influx of corporate business that has flooded in as both Indian and foreign companies have seen potential in the peninsular. This in turn has sent property and thus hotel prices sky high. At one point, the Holiday Inn in Juhu was US$5 a night more expensive than Manhattan.

However, the chronic infrastructure and rising prices have driven or will drive the corporations away. If it ‘aint cheap, why come to Bombay? Hotel prices are already beginning to fall and I predict something of a property crash in the coming year.

As a result, I have stopped using hotels and now stay over with friends or rent apartments. The following hotel list are a little out of date but only by virtue of what’s absent:

North (Andheri Juhu & the airport)
South (Colaba)
